A Knowledge Composer

Pattern Realms™ is a Knowledge Composer that enables people and AI to work together to explore, create and exchange ideas, experiences, research, stories, designs, and games that consolidate, locate, organize, rate, and classify knowledge fragments to enable publication of credible knowledge compositions.

For example, in a town that was evaluating a proposal to install Electric Vehicle charging stations, the Pattern Realms knowledge composer was used to track the objects, arguments, costs, and research fragments that are needed to make an effective decision as to whether to spend public funds to support Electric Vehicles. During this investigation, some knowledge is fact such as “the power company offers a grant”, some knowledge is analysis such as “for every EV charging station the average town of the same size and traffic pattern earns x dollars per year”, some knowledge is speculation such as “more people will shop in the downtown stores if there are EV charging stations”, and some knowledge is AI provided, such as “EV charging stations encourage electric vehicle use.” Each of these fragments provided weight to the argument, but in different ways. The Pattern Realms Knowledge Composer organizes and enables evaluation of each knowledge fragment that goes into such a decision.

Once such a decision is made, the patterns of research and the decision flow can be extracted from the solution. In the example, the pattern would provide a template for making decisions about infrastructure development, where the pattern may include types of elements such as “Objectives” supported by a “Construct” justified by “Facts”, “Analysis”, and “AI Statements”. By designing the pattern, errors can be eliminated in the process. For example, if “AI Statements” are weighted directly, this would allow the AI to insert errors into the decision process; a better design would ensure that “Analysis” always bridges “AI Statements” to “Truth”. The patterns designed and used in Pattern Realms — which are intended to always be open source — can then be shared and adapted to other problems and solution domains.

A Pattern Language for Knowledge

The Knowledge Composer is designed around a pattern language which describes each knowledge element in the context of a solution quest. Each knowledge element is presented, decorated, located, derived from, dependent upon, co-resident, and chained to other knowledge elements. Thus, any fragment of knowledge can be rated for the qualities of accuracy, confidence, and other weighting factors. Knowledge compositions are created from elements to present an analysis, predictable flow, constraint policy, enlightenment, entertainment or other contribution to the knowledge expanse. Pattern Realms is developing the open source Darthawk™ language for building and animating patterns.

A Roadmap to Open Source

The Pattern Realms platform is being privately developed as a Flutter/Dart application and the early versions are being rolled out as a set of demos and products intended to be “free or low priced, widely deployed” and targeting specific domains, including elder caregiving, game development, quests and other purposes. As the business is fully funded and the models are refined, portions of the language, model and code will be made available as open source projects over time. The ultimate goal is to become fully Open Source and profitably sustainable.

Pattern Realms content can be “private”, “shared” or “public”. Content generated by AI should not be copyright protected and this should be open source. Freely sharing human-created original content and compositions is encouraged.

The patterns and templates reflecting truth always resolve down to the documentation of the existence of a natural order and cannot not be protected. Patterns are intended to be shared, compared, refined, and distilled in an open source ecosystem of human and AI knowledge contributions.

A publication monetization and consumption scheme is designed into the ecosystem to enable profiting from contributions to the ecosystem. Discovering a pattern can be prestigious and prestige can be monetized.
